Tony Iyare is Group
Editor of the DailyTimes. He has also worked as
stringer for the high brow American newspaper, The New
York Times since 1992 and anchored a Special Report
on Nigeria in September 2001 for the influential Wall
Street Journal.
Iyare
pioneered the first Nigerian solely online newspaper,
The Gleaner news online in November
2003 and has since 2001 contributed pieces to Choices,
the quarterly magazine of the United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP).
Since
1998, he has edited four major newspaper titles and
contributed several pieces to books and influential
journals. A graduate of the University of Ife (now Obafemi
Awolowo University), Ile Ife, where he read Political
Science and International Relations, Iyare, a prose stylist,
is an editorial consultant to the United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP) and a host of civil society organisations.
He is
a regular analyst on Conflict and Development issues in
Africa on African Independent Television (AIT).
His special area of work include: Politics, Gender, Media,
Conflict and Development.
