Introduction
1st October is Nigeria's
first an authentic compendium designed to encourage Nigeria and Nigerians to
begin to think Nigeria and build strong and positive perception in the eyes of
our publics. Apart from highlighting major events since independence in 1960; it
would x-rayed the Nigerian attempt at governance and nation building. 1ST
OCTOBER is a rare treasure from our history and research of our present.
With a vision of this kind, Folio Communications Limited, in the year 2006
presented to Nigerians a bountiful special publication, called '1ST OCTOBER'.
Consequent upon the success
of last year's edition and the resolve to build a sustainable platform with the
publication, 1st October Publications Limited was incorporated as an autonomous
company. However, this autonomy does exclude the new company from the
integration going on in the Folio Holdings companies of which Folio
Communications and 1st October critically must remain relevant. The integration
allows each company benefit from the resources of others the `group. Thus we
find The Daily Times for instance still playing pivotal role as well as
providing content for the publication.
Editorial
In the first issue, '1ST
OCTOBER' featured views and perspectives from past leaders, strategic focus on
corporate Nigeria and the emerging markets; government's (three tiers) efforts
at creating the enabling environment for wealth creation in the private sector
and the visions of governance with a view to addressing the challenges that
assail the common people.
This year, in
recognition of the steps taken so far by the present leadership under President
Yar'Adua, in pursuing the rule of law a will to re-engineer and resolve our
past, so as to enthrone the country as a giant in the sun, 1st October reviews
the thrust of President Yar'Adua's government which is significantly anchored on
the plank of instituting Electoral Reforms, Rule of Law and Resolving the
prevailing crises in the Niger Delta.
This second volume of 1st
October provides another intellectual exchange on this path to nation building.
A vital ingredient in this years' edition is the focus on the Niger Delta with
the feature of the Niger Delta Development Master Plan. This is obviously a
collector's item.
