UNN embarks on massive staff retraining
Director of the entrepreneurship development centre, CEDR, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Prof. Alex Ikeme, says the massive retraining of academic and non academic staff embarked upon by the institution was to enhance capacity building and give the students the best they require to set the proper academic foundation for growth. Speaking at the end of a 3- day brain-storming workshop organized for UNN lecturers by the Prof. Eric Eboh led African Institute for Applied Economics (AIAE) inside the Enugu Bridge Waters Conference Centre, Friday, Ikeme explained that the periodic training, which he described as a huge intellectual harvest in the Ivory Tower, was part of a systematic educational revolution to make UNN as the Harvard of Africa.

According to him, “since the appointment of the current vice chancellor in 2004, the scholar has repeatedly told us that he is in a hurry to lead the university to be the first in the country to be ranked among the best 100 best universities in the world and the training of the trainers workshops being arranged for our academic and non academic staff within and outside the country, are designed to meet the target within the shortest possible time.” The university don stated that the just concluded workshop entitled “enhancing the effectiveness of entrepreneurship training in Nigeria”, was primarily targeted at the staff attached to the entrepreneurship development centre, EDC, south-east zone, because of the high premium the vice chancellor places on making entrepreneurship education as the key to Nigeria’s survival in the 21 century.
