Police move
against kidnapping in Rivers State
The Rivers State Police Command under the leadership of
Mr. Bala Hassan last weekend despached no fewer than 400
police and millitary personnel to areas in the state
where hospitality business thrives in an attempt to stop
millitants from kidnaping guests before and after the
yuletide period. According to a source, Interligence
report revealed to LAGOS WEEKEND suspected millitants
and hoodlums have perfected various strategies to use
the yuletide period to achieve their aims. The source
disclosed that police detectives and other personnel in
uniform have been despatched to big hotels such like the
Presidential, Protea and Maro City Hotels, to protect
guests in these places.
Top police chiefs in the state said to be leading
various teams of policemen to ensure a crime-free and
hitchfree yuletide period includes, Mr. Habila Joshak,
Mr. Makama Bashir and the Comander Mopol 19, Alhaji
Garba Umar. According to a Divisional Police Officer (DPO)
who pleaded anonymity, the police move to curb the
excesses of the millitants and criminals in the state,
would not have yielded any fruits if not for the fact
that persons such as the state governor, Mr.Rotimi
Amaechi and a well known businessman, Mr. Apo Marine,
are assisting the police both financially and morally.
Confirming the presence of additional security
operatives sent to these areas, the senior police
officer enjoined other state commands to emulate the
Rivers State Command.
