Immigration generates N880bn in two years

The Nigeria Immigration Service has generated about N879, 584 into the Federal Government coffers between January 2007 and July, 2008. Abbe Godwin Minster of Interior, who disclosed this recently at an annual ministerial briefing in Abuja also said that a total of N7, 474, 750.00 was spent on staff training and capacity building. Giving a breakdown of the figures, Abbe said, the ministry through the Department of Citizenship and Business generated N175, 848, 349 and $320, 000.00, including the sum of N7,751,040,208 and $7,197,813 from the on- line revenue collection introduced by the Immigration Service. Abbe reteirated government’s resolve to continue to pay priority attention to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) which he described as fledging paramilitary outfit. On the question of arming the outfit, the minister said the Act establishing the NSCDC does not provide for arm possession, adding that if the government deems it expedient they will be armed to meet changing demands.
