Christmas/New Year: MTN reassures, counsels customers
MTN, Nigeria’s leading telecommunications services provider has reassured its customers of its unwavering commitment to provide excellent telecommunications services during the Christmas and New Year despite the expected seasonal surge in demand. According to Wale Goodluck, the company’s Corporate Services Executive, “MTN has made suitable preparations, especially in the area of additional capacity on the network, to address the surge in demand that we expect will accompany the Christmas and New Year celebrations”. , adding that ‘this pattern of usage and the attendant impact on the network is a normal trend faced by operators all over the world during festive seasons’. Goodluck advised customers to send goodwill and season’s greetings ahead of time, and avoid the usual rush associated with the season. “It is advisable to send seasonal greetings in good time, perhaps two or three days ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations, in order to avoid the congestion that arises when millions of customers send messages at the same time at the peak of the festive season.” It is such seasonal upsurge in SMS usage, said Goodluck that often leads to delayed transmission of messages during the festive season. MTN customers, said Goodluck, could also endeavour to use the SMS platform to greater effect during this period. “SMS tariffs are very competitive and customers can save considerable cost by communicating more by SMS than having to make voice calls all the time”. This way, he said, in addition to cost savings, customers are able to avoid the occasional hitches that may result from increased demand for voice channels during peak periods.
